Integrated system for the mitigation of navigation risks in port areas

ISYPORT takes on the challenge of navigational safety in ports and areas near port facilities, i.e. those areas prone to the greatest number of maritime accidents, especially collisions and impacts.

The project goes towards the creation of a coordinated system of innovative methods and tools, based on information from numerical simulations, sensors and decision support tools, aimed at the recognition of hazardous events and therefore able to provide support to situational awareness.

A system of sensor data fusion and real-time analysis will be realized, through which users, both professional and amateur, will be able to share with each other and with port operators all the information for a safe execution of maneuvers in port.

In order to validate the developed tools, it will be conducted an experimentation of the same at the ports of Augusta and Catania under the competence of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Sicily Sea. This choice is also associated with the fact that the Italian region where the highest number of accidents occurs is Sicily (Marine Casualty Report, 2015, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport).

Finally, a plan for the dissemination of results and technology transfer of the project will be carried out addressed to specific beneficiaries (other Research Organizations and other industrial realities, Public Administrations) of different levels (local, regional and national).
